The Evansville clubhouse staff referred to him as "the kid" this season. Next year António Barnab will have to have a new nickname. He earned it after winning the 1958 Downstream Outstanding Pitcher Award.
Barnab made 16 starts this year, winning 9 and losing 4. He threw 117.1 innings, fanned 117, allowed 111 hits and 25 walks, while holding opposing teams to a .241 average as he logged an impressive 3.22 ERA.

 | Sunday, June 15th, 1958: 15 Ks for Tongue, Beats Evansville 6-1
The New Albany Dogs were victorious over the Evansville Wildfire today 6-1 at Yachts Ballpark after getting an outstanding performance from starting pitcher David Tongue. The 21-year-old Tongue brought his top game to the mound, striking out 15 batters while allowing 3 hits and 1 walk.
"He made a lot of good pitches out there," the Evansville manager said. "He made some of our guys look bad. We didn't help matters by swinging at everything, but we really have to give him credit -- he didn't make many mistakes."
This season Tongue has a 6-0 record with a 2.56 ERA.

 | Saturday, June 14th, 1958: 32-Game Streak Ends, Zerin Hitless
The Evansville Wildfire got more than a 6-0 victory over New Albany today at Yachts Ballpark. They put an end to José Zerin's 32-game hitting spree by holding him without a hit in 4 at-bats. But it was no big deal to the Dogs catcher.
Zerin seemed to feel more for his team than himself.
"I had some great looks at some pitches that I should have hit. I missed some that I shouldn't have swung at. All in all, I wasn't much help with the bat today."
A look at his 1958 stats shows Zerin with a .431 average, 2 home runs, 35 RBIs and 34 runs scored. He has played in 47 games.
