| Breaking News | | Tuesday, June 17th, 1958: Castro 5-5 Against Louisville After the New Albany 13-8 victory over Louisville and his 5-hit day left fielder Rubén Castro told BNN beat writers, "It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college ball, two hits in a game is very good... three or four hits even better... 5 or more are out of sight... and if it is in pro ball... it is really something special. It will get you in the record books."
The 22-year-old player gained that distinction today at Yachts Ballpark with a spectacular 5 for 5 game against the Louisville Cubs.
The skipper of the Dogs spoke glowingly of Castro, telling BNN writers, "His swing is getting there. We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Rubén did that to perfection today."
R. Castro hit an RBI single in the 1st, hit a two-run single in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 5th and hit a solo-shot off R. Padilloa in the 7th.
This year Castro is hitting .258 with 3 home runs. | | Thursday, June 5th, 1958: Heath Stops Fort Knox Cold "I had everything working for me out there. I used every one of my pitches, hit both sides of the plate really well and felt like I could do whatever I wanted."
With stuff like that, it was easy for Jeff Heath of the Cubs to handcuff the Gold 9-0 and come away with a complete-game 5-hit shutout. He recorded 7 strikeouts and 1 walk in an impressive performance.
Season-to-date Heath has rung up 3 wins and 9 losses in 14 appearances. He has an ERA of 4.90 and has fanned 60 batters in 93.2 innings. | | Thursday, May 29th, 1958: Corrigan Fashions Shutout Against Showboats It was a great game for Eric Corrigan of the Louisville Cubs. The 17-year-old hurler blanked the Owensboro Showboats 10-0, stopping them on 4 hits.
His record this season is 3-5 in 11 starts and Corrigan has a 3.83 ERA. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 24-38, .387 PCT | | Position in Division | 5th, 17.0 GB | | Record at home | 12-19, .387 PCT | | Record on the road | 12-19, .387 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 1-2, .333 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 7-12, .368 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 3-7, .300 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 21-31, .404 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 3-7, .300 PCT | | Record in April | 8-7, .533 PCT | | Record in May | 8-18, .308 PCT | | Record in June | 8-13, .381 PCT |
