Wednesday, July 2nd, 1958: Kenova Tops Fort Knox
"Anticipatin' celebratin'" was the Kenova clubhouse slogan for the Ohio River Cup this year -- and celebrate they did, when they beat the Fort Knox Gold 4-3 in the series.

The Caravels won the deciding game today 15-10 at Minneapolis Grounds for their 3rd Ohio River Baseball crown.

During the 1958 regular season, they registered a 39-23 mark and finished first in the Upstream race.
Wednesday, June 25th, 1958: 5-8 Day for Dennis
On top of the Kenova hit parade today was Hershel Dennis. He went to the plate 8 times and marched away with 5 hits, sparking the Caravels to a 9-6 victory over the Fort Knox Gold. He certainly had their number at the plate in this record-making 5-8 performance.

The sweet swinging first baseman told reporters, "Each time I went to the plate, I was thinking about hitting the ball hard somewhere. When I focus on that, I usually have quality at-bats."

The skipper of the Gold wailed to the press, "Too much plate. Not the way we planned it. Any hitter in the league will rip you when you do that."

H. Dennis flied out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, flied out in the 8th, hit an RBI double in the 9th, struck out in the 11th, doubled in the 13th and hit a three-run home run off F. Cavazos in the 15th.

This year Dennis is hitting .339 with 6 home runs and 21 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .391 clip and scored 11 runs.
