"Chris Singleton is really a good pitcher when he throws strikes early in the count," said his manager after the Steubenville hurler tossed a complete game 3-hit shutout against the Wheeling Colonials.
"I went right after each hitter, trying to get ahead in the count," said Singleton. "I wanted them to swing the bats and keep my pitch count down. It worked. I felt strong the whole game, even in the last two innings."
Singleton walked 2 and struck out 2 in the 2-0 victory.
To date in 1958, Singleton sports a 1-3 mark with a 3.68 ERA in 5 starting assignments. He has held the opposition to a .301 batting average and has 13 strikeouts in 36.2 innings.

What a day for Wynn McTause of the Weirton Tigers! A 5-hit hitting spree! That doesn't happen every day! He ripped Steubenville pitching apart at Tamarins Ballpark and sparked the Tigers to a 14-1 victory. He wrote his name in the record books, finishing his special day 5 for 6.
"I'm usually a first ball hitter," McTause told BNN reporters in the postgame press conference. "I think pitchers think batters are going to let the first one go by. I never do. I've always found that it's better to pull the trigger early in the count. Pitchers get real nasty when they get ahead of you, so I try to avoid that."
W. McTause singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and grounded out in the 9th.
This year McTause is batting .571 with 12 hits and no home runs. He has scored 5 times and has batted in 4 runs.

Even though he is a newcomer to Ohio River Baseball, Maureo Cazalo put up some good numbers in May and brought home the US Batter of the Month trophy.
He was one of Steubenville's offensive leaders with a .388 average in 23 games. He also racked up 7 home runs, 21 RBIs and 27 runs scored.
Cazalo has collected 51 hits for the Spartans this year, 9 of them home runs. He has also netted 33 RBIs and scored 38 runs while batting .381.
