| Breaking News | | Monday, June 16th, 1958: US's #1 Player, MacGregor of Moon Township No single hit brought Elias MacGregor Player of the Week honors -- the Moon Township Hillbillies third baseman corralled the award with a consistent approach in every at-bat.
"Hitting is all about discipline," said MacGregor. "When you lose focus, start to lunge at the ball and swing too agressively... swinging at a lot of bad pitches... that's when your average starts to drop and you wind up fighting for playing time. You're most successful when you concentrate on the ball and make 'em throw strikes."
Concentrate he did. MacGregor stroked 13 hits in 28 at-bats while cranking out no home runs, 9 RBIs and 4 runs scored.
In 1958 MacGregor has put up a .341 batting average with 72 hits, 3 home runs and 34 RBIs. | | Sunday, June 1st, 1958: Upstream #1 Hurler is Juanola Montego Juanola hasn't been around the big leagues long enough to know that youngsters shouldn't be winning Upstream Pitcher of the Month. Steubenville hitters were bewildered throughout the game by his delivery.
The opposing manager said, "When you face a guy who hides the ball like he does, it takes a couple of at-bats to try to find his release point. We just never figured him out."
So far this year Colón has a 7-1 record with a 2.63 ERA. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 34-28, .548 PCT | | Position in Division | 3rd, 5.0 GB | | Record at home | 15-16, .484 PCT | | Record on the road | 19-12, .613 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 1-6, .143 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 6-11, .353 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 2-3, .400 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 31-25, .554 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 4-6, .400 PCT | | Record in April | 8-7, .533 PCT | | Record in May | 16-10, .615 PCT | | Record in June | 10-11, .476 PCT |
