Angelo Freeze really sizzled at the plate in today's 15-4 win over Sheriffs. The Bangor first baseman blistered Poughkeepsie for 5 hits in 6 at-bats.
"Freeze was too tough to get out today," the Sheriffs skipper said in the postgame interview. "No matter what we threw him, he hit it. And he hit some good pitches, too."
A. Freeze struck out in the 1st, hit a GRAND SLAM off P. Villarreal in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run single in the 8th.
So far this year Freeze is batting .303 with 9 home runs. |

"Don't believe everything you hear" was the word from the team's ownership group after rumors of Abel Merville wanting out of Poughkeepsie surfaced late yesterday. No one knows exactly how this news broke and Merville laughed it off when told of the story. |
 | Monday, June 23rd, 1958: Great Stroke: Swerdlove Gets 5 Hits
At Rhode Island Stadium Scot Swerdlove was the King of Swing today in the 16-4 win over the Sheriffs. The Providence left fielder stepped into the batter's box 6 times against the Poughkeepsie and delivered 5 hits.
It was a sensational game for him. He told the press, "Unbelievable feeling. It felt good. 5 for 6! It does wonders for your batting average, too."
S. Swerdlove singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 7th and grounded out in the 8th.
In 56 games this year Swerdlove has posted a .361 average and put up these numbers: 4 home runs, 39 RBIs and 43 runs scored. |
