Monday, July 28th, 1958: Saratoga Springs's Smale, Empire State Pitcher of the Year Winner
Mal Smale of the Saratoga Springs Sunshine is in the spotlight today. He was acclaimed the best pitcher in the East and will be honored with the 1958 Empire State Pitcher of the Year.

He started 23 games and compiled a 16-3 record with an ERA of 4.13 in 183 innings with 124 strikeouts.

Thursday, July 3rd, 1958: Capitals Blank Sunshine, Washington Wins
It was a masterful game today for Glenn Washington. The Capitals hurler pitched shutout ball against the Saratoga Springs Sunshine en route to a 8-0 win at Capitals Ballpark. In the game Washington rang up 2 strikeouts, walked 3 and allowed 6 hits.

Monday, June 30th, 1958: 22-Game Streak Ends, Middleton Hitless
The Albany Capitals pitching did its job today, holding hot-hitting Dan Middleton hitless in 4 at-bats during a 5-2 victory over the Saratoga Springs Sunshine at Saratoga Springs Fields. This disappointing performance ended his 22-game hitting streak.

"I'm a little down right now," Middleton told BNN after the game. "I couldn't get anything going when the team needed me and I hated to see the streak end, too."

In the 1958 season Middleton has hit .376 with no home runs, 68 RBIs and scored 68 runs.
