But a 5-hit game only comes around once in a blue moon. It happened at Hoboken Grounds when Ichiro Taniguchi of Hoboken scattered 5 hits all over the ballpark against the Troy Trojans.
He walloped 5 hits in 5 at-bats in his career-day performance to help the Skyscrapers get by the Trojans 10-9.
In a talkative and jovial mood after the game, the catcher of the Skyscrapers exclaimed, "Whoa, my swing was really, really there today. I made some good, sweet-spot contact and when that happens... good things happen... like 5-5. I could get used to a lot of days like this one."
I. Taniguchi hit an RBI double in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th and doubled in the 8th.
Thus far this year Taniguchi has hit .415 with 1 home run and 45 RBIs. | | Friday, June 20th, 1958: Woolford 6-6 Against Trojans It wasn't poetic justice.
Stephan Woolford of the Capitals had a terrific 6-hit game today, really socking it to the Troy Trojans, but his team didn't win the game.
In the clubhouse after the 11-10 loss, he moaned to the press, "Hey, I don't want to sound ungrateful, but something is missing here. When you have a great game you should win the game, too."
And he definitely had an unforgettable day in the batter's box, ripping out 6 hits in 6 at-bats.
The manager for the Capitals sympathized with his right fielder and told BNN reporters after the game, "Stephan played a whale of a game, but sometimes individual brilliance is not enough to win... baseball is a team sport... it takes more than just one player to win a game."
S. Woolford doubled in the 1st, hit a two-run triple in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and hit a two-run home run off R. Martínez in the 9th.
This year Woolford has collected a .473 batting average to date with 147 hits in 311 at-bats, 78 RBIs, 7 home runs and scored 116 times. He has played in 69 games. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 29-53, .354 PCT | | Position in Division | 5th, 36.0 GB | | Record at home | 15-26, .366 PCT | | Record on the road | 14-27, .341 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 5-1, .833 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 13-6, .684 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 6-15, .286 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 23-38, .377 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 6-4, .600 PCT | | Record in April | 9-19, .321 PCT | | Record in May | 8-18, .308 PCT | | Record in June | 12-16, .429 PCT |
