Tuesday, July 1st, 1958: ML Selects Rookie Star of the Month
John Livingston earned June's Rookie of the Month honors in the Miller for last month's performance. The boyish Pittsburgh catcher might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Livingston hit .250 with 4 home runs, 15 RBIs and 9 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

In the 1958 season Livingston is batting .257 with 67 hits and 12 home runs. He has scored 36 times and batted in 42.
Wednesday, June 25th, 1958: van Alstyne Puts Spell on Pittsburgh
Kurt van Alstyne of the Philadelphia Haymakers was one tough customer on the hill today. He blanked the Pittsburgh Keystones 5-0 on 3 hits, registering 10 strikeouts and 1 walk.

"When he's on, he's tough to hit," said the Pittsburgh manager after the game. "He's just a bulldog out there."

Thus far this season van Alstyne has posted a 2-3 record, started 10 games, struck out 54 batters in 63 innings and compiled a 4.57 ERA.
Tuesday, June 24th, 1958: Pittsburgh Whitewashes Philadelphia, Eck Jr. Winner
The Keystones whipped the Haymakers in a 3-0 whitewash today at J.P. Morgan Field. It was a masterful outing for Arnold C Eck Jr., who shut out Philadelphia on 2 hits.

So far this season Eck Jr. has a 7-5 record with a 2.97 ERA.
