| Breaking News |  | Tuesday, July 29th, 1958: Woolford Selected EL's Top Batter
The votes have been tallied and the winner of the East Empire State Batter of the Year has been named. It was awarded today to Stephan Woolford from Albany for his great year at the plate.
He put up some impressive numbers, including a .446 batting average and a .506 on-base percentage this year while racking up 44 doubles, 8 triples, 8 home runs, 84 RBIs and 123 runs scored.

| Tuesday, July 15th, 1958: Capitals Triumph in 1958 East vs. West Series
They did it!
The Albany Capitals are the best team in the New York State Baseball!
They did it by knocking off the Niagra Falls Power 16-9 today at Capitals Ballpark to win the East vs. West Series 4-1.
It was the Capitals 2nd league championship.
"This team's got a lot of heart," the champs manager said. "We worked really hard. We just beat a very, very good team, an excellent team. We had to do the little things."
Albany rapped up the regular season with a 65-17 record and finished first in the East.

It was a masterful game today for Glenn Washington. The Capitals hurler pitched shutout ball against the Saratoga Springs Sunshine en route to a 8-0 win at Capitals Ballpark. In the game Washington rang up 2 strikeouts, walked 3 and allowed 6 hits.
This season Washington has worked 61.1 innings with 39 strikeouts en route to a 7-1 record and a 5.28 ERA.
