Garrison Bertrand continues to hit at a blistering pace. For 35 straight games he has had at least one hit. Bertrand did it again today with 3 hits in the Hartford triumph over Newburyport. The Lightning defeated the River Rats 14-12 at Lightning Ballpark.

| Thursday, September 25th, 1958: 34-Game Hitting Streak for Bertrand
The streak is alive and well -- at least for today.
Garrison Bertrand did it again. He bashed 2 hits in today's game and for the last 34 games in a row has collected at least one hit. The 19-year-old Hartford left fielder extended his streak as the Lightning beat the Newburyport River Rats 11-10 at Lightning Ballpark.
G. Bertrand flied out in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th and flied out in the 8th.
Thus far this year Bertrand has hit .423 with 4 home runs and 63 RBIs.

His run was over, but a New Bedford victory took some of the disappointment out of Juan Paláez losing his 23-game hitting streak. The 28-year-old second baseman did not get a hit in 3 at-bats, but the Whalers whipped the Newburyport River Rats 7-6 today at Ballpark of New Bedford.
Currently Paláez is batting .412 with 12 home runs and 83 RBIs.
