During the season the new champs compiled a 72-28 record in the Bartlett Association and finished in first place in the standings. He battered them for 6 hits in 7 at-bats.
"Boy, I was on the mark today," said the Hartford center fielder after the game. "I could see the ball real well. It's a great feeling to do this. And besides, 6-7 won't hurt your batting average like 0-5 will."
K. Brown hit an RBI double in the 1st, doubled in the 2nd, hit a two-run double in the 3rd, struck out in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 6th, hit an RBI triple in the 7th and singled in the 9th.
Brown is currently hitting at a .432 pace with 15 home runs, 165 RBIs and has scored 138 times. |  | Wednesday, October 1st, 1958: Lightning Cullhane Smacks 5 Hits "Believe it or not," said Hartford catcher John Cullhane, "they threw me some good pitches today."
That would be hard to believe for anyone who saw him dispose of the Steeldogs with a great 5-hit performance.
"He made it look easy," said the Portland manager, who saw his team fall to the Hartford Lightning, 22-21. "Hats off to him!"
Hitting .400 to date, Cullhane has 24 home runs and 85 RBIs.
