| Breaking News | | Friday, July 25th, 1958: League Suspends Bisuet The Reading Rabbits were not very happy with the home plate umpire in today's 2-0 loss to Hazelton at Ballpark of Reading. One in particular -- Raúl Bisuet. Upon being called out on strikes, the Rabbits first baseman gave the ump quite an earful. For that, the man in blue gave him the thumb and sent him to an early shower.
But the disgruntled Bisuet lingered on the field for another five minutes berating the umpire. Finally his manager got him off the field and into the clubhouse.
But it got worse after the game, when Bisuet told reporters, "He was blind today. They played 'Three Blind Mice' for him. If he doesn't know the words to the song, I'm sure we can get it in braille, so he can follow along."
For all of his escapades and after-the-game oration, the league office suspended Bisuet for 3 games.
So far this season Bisuet is batting .240 with 9 home runs, 42 RBIs and 30 runs scored. He has 55 hits in 229 at-bats, 15 walks and a .304 OBP. Bisuet has played in 88 games. | | Monday, July 14th, 1958: Streak Finally Over, Caravaca Hitless It was the best of both worlds for the Reading Rabbits today at Ballpark of Lancaster as they defeated the Lancaster Churns 8-3 and also ended Jairo Caravaca's 20-game hitting streak. The 24-year-old Lancaster shortstop failed to get a hit in 4 at-bats.
"Nothing personal against Jairo, we just wanted to win the game," said the victorious Rabbits skipper. "We did a great job keeping him off-balance and guessing."
When asked by reporters about his streak coming to an end, Caravaca frowned and said, "I won't lie and say that I'm not disappointed about my streak ending, but I would feel much better about things if we had won the game."
So far this season Caravaca is hitting .303 with 2 home runs, 24 RBIs and 35 runs scored. He has 57 hits in 188 at-bats and a .421 OBP. | | Friday, July 11th, 1958: Jerome Burton Lost for Season Jerome Burton of the Reading Rabbits was injured in today's game against Allentown and had to be helped off the field by the trainers. The initial diagnosis is a torn tricep muscle and he is expected to be out for up to 7-8 months. It happened while Burton was throwing a pitch. "It hurt a lot, to be honest. I just hope it heals soon and I can get back on the field."
This season in 3 starts Jerome Burton has a record of 1-1 with 18 strikeouts in 20 innings and a 4.95 ERA. | | | Injuries | | Player | Injury | Out for... | Disabled List Status | | P Jerome Burton | torn tricep muscle | 4 months | Not on DL | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 51-61, .455 PCT | | Position in Division | 2nd, 10.0 GB | | Record at home | 26-30, .464 PCT | | Record on the road | 25-31, .446 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 6-6, .500 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 19-18, .514 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 8-10, .444 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 43-51, .457 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 7-3, .700 PCT | | Record in April | 6-22, .214 PCT | | Record in May | 14-12, .538 PCT | | Record in June | 14-14, .500 PCT | | Record in July | 16-13, .552 PCT | | Record in August | 1-0, 1.000 PCT |
