| Breaking News |  | Wednesday, July 30th, 1958: Kunkel Toys with Hazelton Magic was in the air and on the mound at Ballpark of Scranton today as Bill Kunkel held Hazelton spellbound in his 2-0 shutout victory. The Scranton pitcher went the route, ran up 6 strikeouts, walked 3 and held the Mafioso to 4 hits to garner the win.
This year Kunkel has fanned 109 in 144.1 innings and collected a 13-3 record with a 3.68 ERA. |  | Sunday, July 27th, 1958: Dorane Mows Down 15 Quakers The Lancaster Churns were victorious over the Scranton Quakers today 7-0 at Ballpark of Lancaster after getting an outstanding performance from starting pitcher Álex Dorane. The 28-year-old Dorane brought his top game to the mound, striking out 15 batters while allowing 1 hit and 1 walk.
"He made a lot of good pitches out there," the Scranton manager said. "He made some of our guys look bad. We didn't help matters by swinging at everything, but we really have to give him credit -- he didn't make many mistakes."
In 1958 Dorane has posted a record of 9 wins and 2 losses with a 2.72 ERA.
