| Breaking News |  | Friday, August 29th, 1958: Denney Named SL's #1 Hurler 25-year-old Jonathan Denney of the Charleston Thrill put together a good year in 1958 for such a young player. Denney was named today as the winner of the South Southern Pitching Star.
Denney crafted an impressive 17-8 record and a 3.98 ERA. In 235 innings he allowed 256 hits, struck out 89, and walked 51. |  | Saturday, August 16th, 1958: Chesapeake Wombats Win North-South Cup The Chesapeake Wombats were too much for Charleston in this year's Down Home Baseball League North-South Cup. They eliminated the Thrill today at Chesapeake Fields and captured the series 4-2.
The Wombats toppled them by the score of 5-4 in the final game of the series to collect their 4th league championship.
Their season record was 71-39 and good enough for first place in the North Bibler. |  | Monday, July 21st, 1958: South Selects Best Performer It can be difficult for a young player to step out of the shadows and assert himself in the South, but last week Tom Campbell of the Charleston Thrill reminded everyone just why he's here as he threw up numbers that made him an easy selection for Player of the Week.
Campbell rocked opposing pitching for a .520 average (13-25), 3 home runs and 8 RBIs to come away with the award.
Presently Campbell is batting .341 with 58 hits and 5 home runs.
