Saturday, July 26th, 1958: Markey Keeps Hit Streak Alive
Today at Ballpark of Birmingham Birmingham lost to Lexington 11-6, but Michael Markey kept his consecutive-game hitting streak alive with 1 hit. The Firebirds center fielder has now delivered hits in 20 straight games.
M. Markey was hit by a pitch in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off B. Nicolson in the 3rd, flied out in the 5th, grounded out in the 6th and struck out in the 8th.

Markey is batting .285 this season in 80 games with 2 home runs, 33 RBIs and 52 runs scored. He has 103 hits in 361 at-bats.
Tuesday, July 1st, 1958: Cristófor Hermandel is June's #1 Hitter in SL
Cristófor Hermandel put together a good June to earn the South Batter of the Month prize. A virtual unknown, he made the most of his chance to prove to Lexington officials that he belongs on the big league roster.

The Monarchs catcher posted a .337 batting average with 4 home runs, 20 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Hermandel is currently batting .337 with 4 home runs and 20 RBIs.
Tuesday, June 17th, 1958: 5-Hit Blitz by Montgomery's Quiles
Montay Quiles found a groove in today's game versus Lexington and wrote his name in the league record book. His 5 for 5 performance at the plate unfortunately wasn't enough, as the Montgomery Spin Doctors lost the game 4-3.

The 21-year-old left fielder told the press, "It was one of those days when everything clicked for me. I made solid contact, and the ball dropped in. But we dropped the game. End of story."

M. Quiles singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 7th and doubled in the 9th.

So far this season Quiles has gotten 68 hits in 228 at-bats for a .298 batting average with no home runs. His stats include 26 RBIs and 45 runs scored. He has played in 55 games.
