| Breaking News | | Wednesday, July 9th, 1958: Smith Has Hot Hand, Bangs 5 hits "It was almost like batting practice. I saw the ball very well and could just about hit it anywhere I wanted." That's what Montgomery catcher Vincent Smith said to BNN reporters after his fantastic 5-7 day against the Statesboro Manatees at Spin Doctors Ballpark. "I got some good counts and used the whole field."
The Spin Doctors had a good day, too, and won the ballgame 13-12.
V. Smith grounded out in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 4th, hit a two-run home run off J. Costa in the 7th, singled in the 8th, flied out in the 10th and hit a three-run home run off B. Burt in the 12th.
Presently Smith is batting .398 and has collected 11 home runs, 66 RBIs, .433 OBP and scored 57 runs. | | Monday, July 7th, 1958: Hemmuc El Guerroui Injured, Out for Season Hemmuc El Guerroui will soon find out from his doctors if his season will continue. The first diagnosis was not too positive and stated the Statesboro reliever could miss the remainder of the year. El Guerroui was injured while throwing a pitch in the Manatees-Centennials clash at Manatees Ballpark recently. Doctors said he has a torn bicep muscle and would be out a minimum of 7 months.
This season El Guerroui has made 16 relief appearances and saved 4 games. His record is 3-0 with 23 strikeouts in 27.1 innings with a 1.32 ERA. | | Monday, July 7th, 1958: Pigott Hurt, Out for Year The season is apparently over for Randy Pigott. The Statesboro Manatees medical staff informed the club that the reliever will be out at least 8 months with a torn labrum. Pigott was hurt in the game against St. Petersburg while throwing a pitch. The doctors did not think he would recover prior to the end of the season.
Taking a look at this year, Randy Pigott has made no relief appearances, recorded no saves and compiled a 7-7 won-lost mark and a 4.05 ERA. In pitching 115.2 innings, he has totaled 62 strikeouts and 49 walks. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 49-61, .445 PCT | | Position in Division | 3rd, 9.0 GB | | Record at home | 29-26, .527 PCT | | Record on the road | 20-35, .364 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 6-6, .500 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 14-18, .438 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 8-16, .333 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 41-45, .477 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 6-4, .600 PCT | | Record in April | 12-16, .429 PCT | | Record in May | 10-16, .385 PCT | | Record in June | 13-15, .464 PCT | | Record in July | 14-14, .500 PCT |
