| Breaking News | | Wednesday, June 4th, 1958: Grays Reinhart Fans 15 Superbas Mike Reinhart of the Washington Grays was something to behold at George Washington Stadium. He was on fire and fanned 15 Superbas en route to a 8-3 victory. Reinhart shackled Rockville on 7 hits and gave up 1 walk in an outstanding performance.
"That's as good as I've ever seen him throw," his manager said. "I've never seen so many bad swings in my life. These guys didn't have a chance."
Reinhart had very little to say to after the game. "We won and that's the bottom line. The Grays don't play for stats -- we play for wins. And we love to beat Rockville."
The Rockville manager wasn't too happy with the game. "He may have gotten some help from the umpire. But he pitched a very good game. You have to tip your cap to him."
Currently Reinhart has a 4-2 won-lost record in 8 starts with a 5.95 ERA. He also has 68 strikeouts in 59 innings. | | Sunday, June 1st, 1958: Four-bagger Feast: Kondo Slugs 3 for Portsmouth Going... Going... Gone! Taisuke Kondo did it three times in the Portsmouth 10-9 victory over the Rockville Superbas. Three home runs in one game! "I was in a groove," he said, "and every pitch they tossed up there looked like a grapefruit."
Commenting after the game to the press, the elated Kondo explained, "I tell you what, I was so shocked because I didn't think the last ball had enough to get out. I thought it was just going to be a long out."
For the day the Portsmouth catcher went 3-4 against Rockville with 5 RBIs and 3 runs scored in a brilliant display of power hitting.
T. Kondo grounded out in the 2nd, hit a two-run home run off H. Go in the 3rd, hit a solo-shot off J. Masiel in the 5th, was hit by a pitch in the 7th, hit a two-run home run off J. O'Bronagham in the 9th and walked in the 11th.
This season Kondo is hitting .225 with 16 home runs. | | Tuesday, May 27th, 1958: Harold Storm Out for Season The season is finished for Harold Storm of the Rockville Superbas.
