"No offense meant to St. Petersburg, but I could see the ball that well. But this wasn't a kid league park, it was Manatees Ballpark. I'm just not too happy that we lost 13-12."
The Statesboro left fielder had a fantastic day at the plate, knocking out 5 hits in 6 at-bats.
His manager elaborated after the game to the press, saying, "António worked the entire offseason on trying to shorten his swing and stay inside the ball and the hard work is paying off in base hits."
"That's what I'm trying to do," Hernández said. "Be quick to the ball and let it travel a little farther so I get a better look at it. It sure did work today."
A. Hernández doubled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, hit an RBI single in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, struck out in the 8th and hit a solo-shot off J. Unknown in the 9th.
Thus far in 1958 Hernández is batting .245 with 10 home runs, 32 RBIs and 34 runs scored. | | Friday, June 20th, 1958: Hit Parade: Salsado Pops 6 Hits 6 times is a charm -- at least in the world of baseball. When a player gets 5 or more hits in a game, he is honored in the record book. The latest honoree is Jesús Salsado of the Statesboro Manatees.
Today he beat up their pitching to the tune of 6 hits in 6 at-bats, but it was the St. Petersburg Centennials that salvaged a 13-12 victory at Manatees Ballpark.
"Salsado was a tough out today," the St. Petersburg manager said to the press in the postgame interview. "He hit some very good pitches with that quick bat of his. Not an easy out, that's for sure. I'm just glad we held everybody else in check and got the win."
Speaking to the BNN writers, Salsado added, "It was a real good day for me individually, but not a good one for the team. No loss is a good one."
J. Salsado singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit a two-run home run off J. Unknown in the 9th.
Thus far this year Salsado is batting .294 with 7 home runs, 33 RBIs and 35 runs scored. | | | | Team Information | | Record overall | 58-52, .527 PCT | | Position in Division | 1st, - GB | | Record at home | 27-28, .491 PCT | | Record on the road | 31-24, .564 PCT | | Record in X-inning games | 3-3, .500 PCT | | Record in one-run games | 12-12, .500 PCT | | Record versus LHP | 18-11, .621 PCT | | Record versus RHP | 40-41, .494 PCT | | Record last 10 games | 2-8, .200 PCT | | Record in April | 19-9, .679 PCT | | Record in May | 17-9, .654 PCT | | Record in June | 14-14, .500 PCT | | Record in July | 8-20, .286 PCT |
