| Breaking News |  | Monday, August 4th, 1958: Ortíz Hurls Wombats to Shutout Win
In a splendid 1-0 shutout performance, Spiro Ortíz of the Chesapeake Wombats subdued the Chattanooga Boosters on a 3-hitter.
His manager said in postgame comments, "He kept hitting his spots and putting up zeroes."
Ortíz registered 9 strikeouts and 1 walk.
This year Ortíz has 14 wins and 9 losses and a 3.48 ERA.

 | Saturday, August 2nd, 1958: Malone Injured, out of Lineup
Chattanooga has lost second baseman David Malone for at least 10-11 months. He was hurt in a game against the Wombats while throwing the ball and sustained a torn back muscle. His doctors said Malone will probably be out the rest of the year.
Malone is hitting .311 so far this season with 55 RBIs and 36 runs scored. He has 83 hits including 15 home runs, 23 walks and .366 OBP.

Manuel Sejas of the Chattanooga Boosters sustained an injury after being bit by a coyote and is expected to miss 2 weeks. The reliever has an undisclosed injury.
So far this year Sejas has nailed down no saves. His won-lost record is 0-1 with a 7.43 ERA.
