Saturday, August 9th, 1958: Fairfax Flames Win Virginia State Championship
This is the time of the year when grown men are sometimes reduced to tears. This year the Fairfax Flames shed tears of joy and the Newport News Cut Throats shed some sad ones, all because of a baseball game.

The Flames eliminated the Cut Throats today 7-3 at Fairfax Grounds and locked up their 4th Virginia Baseball League Virginia State Championship championship, winning the series 3-2.

The Flames finished the regular season in the with a 65-47 record, ending up in second place in the division standings.
Wednesday, August 6th, 1958: Loflin to Miss 7-8 Months
The Newport News Cut Throats will have to make do without Vered Loflin for 7-8 months. He suffered a torn back muscle while running the bases in the game today against the Fairfax Flames. His teammates, understandably, were upset about losing the center fielder. "That's a tough break for him," one of them said. "But this team is resilient. We will just fill in until he gets back." Loflin will miss 7-8 months.

Thus far this year Loflin has hit .327 with no home runs and 3 RBIs.
Wednesday, July 30th, 1958: Incle Fires Shutout in Newport News Win
Claudio Incle pitched a strong game in blanking the Harrisonburg Mountaineers 2-0, allowed no runs on 5 hits, totaled 7 strikeouts and gave up 2 walks.

The Newport News manager said he could tell right away it was going to be a good game for Incle. "Right from the start, you could see how economical he was," he said. "He threw a lot of strikes."

In 1958 Incle has a 10-5 record with a 2.91 ERA in 16 starts.
