| Breaking News |  | Monday, July 21st, 1958: VBL Player of the Week Goes to Maravilla of Virginia Beach His hard work paid off this week. The hardworking Dantel Maravilla was rewarded with the Virginia Baseball League Player of the Week honors.
The scrappy Virginia Beach Schooners right fielder hit .517 while collecting 15 hits in 29 at-bats, 1 home run and 9 RBIs.
This year Maravilla is hitting .310 with 8 home runs and 38 RBIs to his credit. He has gotten on base at a .349 clip and scored 29 runs. |  | Thursday, July 17th, 1958: Brewster Struts Stuff in Richmond Win Rupert Brewster dominated Richmond with a brilliant 3-hit shutout in the Schooners 1-0 triumph at Schooners Ballpark. The Virginia Beach hurler fanned 13 and walked 1 in the game.
This year Brewster has made 27 starts, thrown 199.1 innings, fanned 178 batters and walked 61. His won-lost record is 12-10 with a 4.15 ERA. |  | Sunday, July 13th, 1958: Maravilla 5-5 for Virginia Beach All game long Virginia Beach's Dantel Maravilla was rattling the walls at Schooners Ballpark and banging out base hits against the Harrisonburg Mountaineers. When the dust finally settled on the diamond, he had a 5-hit day and the Schooners had a 8-2 victory.
Speaking with reporters after his standout performance, the 26-year-old right fielder said, "Get 5 hits, win a ballgame, it's nice. I could get used to this."
D. Maravilla walked in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and hit a two-run home run off E. Dare in the 9th.
