Monday, June 9th, 1958: ML Player of the Week Named
Cordero Esesbeno did nothing to hurt his value as an upcoming free agent last week, making contact with the ball at every opportunity and reeling in the Miller Player of the Week Award.

The first baseman hit .444 for the Blue Hens, recording 12 hits in 27 at-bats, 4 home runs, 8 RBIs and 8 runs scored.

Esesbeno is batting .268 in 1958 with 6 home runs, 11 RBIs and 16 runs scored. He has 22 hits in 82 at-bats.
Thursday, June 5th, 1958: Rowdy Players Suspended by League
The league commissioner's office had responded quickly to yesterday's major incident at Downtown Ballpark involving the Spartans Clifton O'Brenan and the Blue Hens Ruddy Barría. Both players have been given 3-game suspensions for violation of the league code of conduct. The suspensions will be effective immediately.

This year O'Brenan is hitting at a .286 pace with 5 home runs and 15 RBIs. He has played in 55 games and scored 36 times.

This season Barría has compiled a 6-3 mark with a 4.43 ERA in 13 starts.
Tuesday, June 3rd, 1958: 3-Homer Hat Trick for Jiménez
Bigger paychecks may be in the offing, if Rafael Jiménez continues to hit like he did today against the Blue Hens. The Portsmouth first baseman crushed three into the stands at Downtown Ballpark in a remarkable performance, propelling the Spartans to a 12-8 win over Baltimore.

He tagged 3 hits in 4 at-bats, drove in 7 runs and scored 3 times.

Speaking to writers after the game, he said, "It was just one of those days when you got something to hit and did something with it." The Baltimore skipper agreed with him. "We made three mistakes and he made us pay each time."

R. Jiménez walked in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off R. Syvestre in the 3rd, hit a three-run home run off K. Sugano in the 4th, flied out in the 5th, hit a three-run home run off Q. Jervis in the 7th and walked in the 9th.

This season-to-date Jiménez has 20 home runs and a .379 batting average.
