The top batter in the North in 1958 was Chesapeake left fielder Luís Castillo. Today he was named the winner of the Southern Hitting Star.
Castillo starred this season with a .325 batting average, 123 hits, 26 home runs, 92 RBIs, .412 OBP and 96 runs scored.

| Saturday, August 16th, 1958: Chesapeake Wombats Win North-South Cup
The Chesapeake Wombats were too much for Charleston in this year's Down Home Baseball League North-South Cup. They eliminated the Thrill today at Chesapeake Fields and captured the series 4-2.
The Wombats toppled them by the score of 5-4 in the final game of the series to collect their 4th league championship.
Their season record was 71-39 and good enough for first place in the North Bibler.

In a splendid 1-0 shutout performance, Spiro Ortíz of the Chesapeake Wombats subdued the Chattanooga Boosters on a 3-hitter.
His manager said in postgame comments, "He kept hitting his spots and putting up zeroes."
Ortíz registered 9 strikeouts and 1 walk.
This year Ortíz has 14 wins and 9 losses and a 3.48 ERA.
