| Breaking News |  | Saturday, June 21st, 1958: Valentín Rips Bangor for 5 Hits Nemesio Valentín put on a hitting clinic today as the Patriots dumped the Lumberjacks 14-8 at New England Field. The Boston right fielder sprayed hits all over the ballpark by lashing Bangor pitching for 5 hits in 5 at-bats in the game.
He told BNN reporters after the game that he just hit it where they pitched it. "Too often I try to pull the ball too much. Today I just went with the pitch."
N. Valentín hit a solo-shot off J. Francis in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI double in the 8th.
This season Valentín is batting .286 with 5 home runs. He has scored 33 runs and driven in 25. |  | Friday, June 20th, 1958: López Batters Boston for 5 Hits Today at Paul Bunyan Field Salvadore López put on an impressive display of hitting -- the Bangor catcher tagged Boston pitching for 5 hits in 5 at-bats, but his teammates were unable to capitalize on his batting spree and lost the game to the Patriots by the score of 7-6.
"Hey, the loss takes some of the joy out of it, but I'll take it. 5-5 ain't bad in any league."
Despite the terrific performance, López remained somewhat somber. "Sure, I'm happy with my performance today," he was quoted as saying in the locker room, "But all that really matters in this game is that number in the win column. We just didn't get it done today."
S. López doubled in the 1st, hit a two-run double in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a solo-shot off M. Sumaya in the 7th and hit a solo-shot off M. Sumaya in the 9th.
So far in 1958 López has hit .379 with 15 home runs and 55 RBIs. He has played in 59 games and scored 53 times. |  | Sunday, June 1st, 1958: Deal: Carlile for Forchion Several Patriots and Bums players soon will have to start shopping for a new home. It was announced today that the two teams came to agreement on a trade. Boston will get 31-year old shortstop Dante Forchion and 36-year old starting pitcher Denny Proffitt and Brooklyn will pick up 23-year old minor league left fielder David Carlile, a 5th round draft pick and a 6th round draft pick in return. "I'm not surprised by the news," one of the players told reporters, "It's part of the business and I understand that. I am looking forward to playing for the Patriots."
