| Breaking News |  | Tuesday, July 1st, 1958: Voaden Top of His Class in June
Harold Voaden's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Bangor left fielder has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.
In June he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.
During the month he hit .398 with 10 doubles, no triples and no home runs. Voaden also scored 14 times and drove in 10 runs.
For the season, Voaden is hitting at a .357 clip with no home runs, 17 RBIs and has scored 18 runs. He has 50 hits, 3 walks and a .374 on-base percentage. |
 | Sunday, June 29th, 1958: Freeze Blisters Poughkeepsie
Angelo Freeze really sizzled at the plate in today's 15-4 win over Sheriffs. The Bangor first baseman blistered Poughkeepsie for 5 hits in 6 at-bats.
"Freeze was too tough to get out today," the Sheriffs skipper said in the postgame interview. "No matter what we threw him, he hit it. And he hit some good pitches, too."
A. Freeze struck out in the 1st, hit a GRAND SLAM off P. Villarreal in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run single in the 8th.
So far this year Freeze is batting .303 with 9 home runs. |
 | Wednesday, June 25th, 1958: Núñez Baffles Newark
Bangor rode the magical arm of Castel Núñez in a 4-0 shutout win over Newark. He shackled them on 3 hits and fanned 9. Almost to a man, the Newark Gunners said he had them guessing wrong all game long.
In 1958, Núñez has a 4-8 mark in 14 starts with a 4.53 ERA. He has given up 100 hits in 97.1 innings, struck out 117 and issued 18 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .261 batting average against him. |
