Tuesday, July 1st, 1958: June's Best Hurler in ML is Walker
Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Johnny Walker still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in June. The 31-year-old starter for Washington was named Miller Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 5 wins and 1 loss with 57 strikeouts in his 7 starts, putting up a fine 3.60 ERA in 50 innings of work.

So far this year Walker has a 9-6 record with a 4.05 ERA.
Tuesday, July 1st, 1958: Washington's Kern Collects June Batting Honor
Alex Kern walked away with the Miller Batter of the Month award for his solid work with the stick in June.

The Washington shortstop hit .419 with 5 home runs, 18 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

Currently Kern is hitting .334 and has collected 9 home runs, 45 RBIs and scored 60 times, while playing in 71 games.
Friday, June 27th, 1958: Season-Ending Injury for Glenn Miller
The news is bad in Washington. The Grays have lost the services of left fielder Glenn Miller for the rest of the season due to a ruptured disc. Miller was injured in a recent game with the Baltimore Blue Hens while making a defensive play and is expected to miss 7 months.

Miller is batting .259 this season in 16 games with 3 home runs, 11 RBIs and 5 runs scored. He has 15 hits in 58 at-bats.
