Sunday, October 19th, 1958: NEBL News: The Offseason Begins
The playoffs are over and another season is in the books in New England Baseball League. Today starts the offseason. Players go on vacation, but general managers gear up for an exciting period of roster moves! The offseason is just about the busiest time for a GM. He must access his players, coaches and manager to determine the areas of need and ways to improve his club in the coming season. The right moves now will pay off in future dividends.

You may now manually select the league award winners, the option is available in the league menu. If you want the AI to select the awards, simply ignore the option.
Friday, October 17th, 1958: New England Cup to Portland
It was two outs in the last inning of the 1958 New England Cup.
"When he hit it, I knew that it was my ball," the Steeldogs fielder said. "But I had to catch it and it seemed like the hardest catch of my life. I said to myself, 'Two hands, just like your dad taught you.'"

He squeezed the ball like a precious diamond -- and the party began -- the Portland Steeldogs had just won their 3rd league championship with a 11-10 win over the New London Widowmakers.

During the season the new champs compiled a 72-28 record in the Bartlett Association and finished in first place in the standings. They triumphed over the Widowmakers 4-3 in games.
Thursday, October 2nd, 1958: Arline Cracks 5 Hits
Ervin Arline told the press after his 5-hit day, "Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate. He wants to hit the ball hard."

Well, that's just what Arline of the New London Widowmakers did against the Burlington Blizzard. He went to the plate 6 times and 5 times he delivered base hits, much to the chagrin of the Blizzard, who suffered a 13-8 defeat.

"Not much that I can say," offered the losing manager, "he just hammered the heck out of us."

E. Arline singled in the 1st, singled in the 4th, struck out in the 4th, singled in the 6th, doubled in the 8th and singled in the 9th.

To date this year Arline is batting .399 with 19 home runs.
