Saturday, August 23rd, 1958: Viamonte Heads Best Batter List
It was a season to remember for Tejano Viamonte. He was one of the most dangerous men in the league when he had a bat in his hand, and the Virginia Baseball League announced today that he has won the Virginia's Best Hitter for 1958.

The Roanoke third baseman dominated opposing pitchers with a .310 batting average, 32 doubles, 4 triples, 13 home runs and 59 RBIs while compiling a .409 on-base percentage and scoring 69 runs.
Friday, August 22nd, 1958: #1 Pitcher Trophy Won by Flames MacIndeor
The Fairfax clubhouse staff referred to him as "the kid" this season. Next year Cade MacIndeor will have to have a new nickname. He earned it after winning the 1958 Virginia Baseball League Virginia's Best Pitcher.

MacIndeor made 28 starts this year, winning 16 and losing 8. He threw 221.2 innings, fanned 173, allowed 190 hits and 85 walks, while holding opposing teams to a .231 average as he logged an impressive 3.78 ERA.

Great glovemen can range far and wide to make a backhand stop or an over-the-shoulder catch -- and the best usually make it look easy. Today the winners of the Virginia Baseball League Virginia's Best Fielder for 1958 were announced. These awards for defensive excellence go to:

First Baseman: Tejano Viamonte (Roanoke Highlanders)
Second Baseman: Martino Velázquez (Fairfax Flames)

Shortstop: Aimen Causey (Harrisonburg Mountaineers)
Left Fielder: Tony Álvarez (Harrisonburg Mountaineers)
